August Celebrations

National Peach MonthPeaches that have been sliced

Get out and visit our local Baltimore Farmers Markets to celebrate National Peach Month! From spring to late fall, you’ll find scores of Baltimore farmers markets dotted throughout the city selling fresh produce, locally made cheeses, and even some unusual culinary curiosities, as well as flowers, crafts, and gifts. Take a peek at some of the Baltimore farmers markets favored by locals and visitors alike: From the small, locally-owned stands to the large and lively markets with rows of growers and extensive selections, "good eats" are always just around the corner at a Baltimore farmers market. When it comes to fresh and locally made and sourced food, a farmers market in Baltimore is the place to go to locate some fabulous food finds for everyone in the family.

National Golf Month

Clifton Park Golf Course is our favorite local golf course. Check it out to celebrate National Golf Month before the August is through. The Clifton Park Golf Course, built in 1915, was the first public golf course in Baltimore. Hole #1, directly adjacent to the Clifton Mansion provides a starting point for a panoramic journey through new and old Baltimore. The golf course has beautifully maintained greens, well-manicured fairways, and a delightful layout. Convenient, value priced and PGA managed, Clifton Park is a perfect answer to today’s fast paced, time-restricted lifestyle. It is an ideal natural resource, adding charm and value to the neighborhood; ecologically, socially, economically, and psychologically. Clifton Park Golf Course is about a 10-minute drive from Waterloo Place Apartments. Happy National Golf Month!

National Family Fun Month

A family enjoying an aquarium

Have you visited the National Aquarium? Check it out this month to celebrate National Family Fun Month. Here's what one reviewer said about visiting the National Aquarium: "I can't imagine NOT enjoying a visit to the aquarium. There are always new exhibits and I see things I've missed each time I go. There are combo tickets available if you're traveling on a budget. Advance purchase saves waiting in line. No matter how many times I've visited I enjoy being there as if it's my first visit." -Trip Advisor user Marcia L, January 2017. National Aquarium is about a 7-minute drive away from Waterloo Place Apartments. Happy National Family Fun Month!

Upcoming Holidays

National S'mores Day

Will you be celebrating National S'mores Day this year? We love the idea of hosting a s’mores bar with friends. You can find all kind of interesting and cool s’more creations. Put out the classic s’more ingredients (graham crackers, chocolate squares, and large marshmallows) along with a variety of candy bars, cookies, and more. Let your guests be creative, but you can also write out some suggested options.

Movie Suggestions

Detroit

Detroit will be playing in theatres beginning Friday, August 4. A police raid in Detroit in 1967 results in one of the largest and most intense riots in United States history, leading to the federalization of the Michigan National Guard and the involvement of two Airborne [Divisions] of the United States Army. Are you planning to see Detroit? Buy your tickets today!

The Circle

The Circle will be released on DVD beginning Tuesday, August 1. As she rises through the ranks of the world’s largest tech and social media company, The Circle, Mae (Emma Watson) is encouraged by company founder Eamon Bailey (Tom Hanks) to live her life with complete transparency. But no one is really safe when everyone is watching. Are you planning to rent The Circle? Stop by a nearby Redbox!

Book Suggestions

Sour HeartA reader enjoying a book

If you’re looking for a book that’ll make you think, read Sour Heart by Jenny Zhang. This book was published on August 1st. It’s a collection of stories from Chinese-American girls who grew up in New York. Learn about all sorts of different and interesting stories of these girls.

The Glass Castle

The Glass Castle is a book about a dysfunctional family and the search for understanding among it all. After reading this book, you can watch the new movie that comes out on August 11th of this month. “The Glass Castle is a remarkable memoir of resilience and redemption, and a revelatory look into a family at once deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant… The Walls children learned to take care of themselves. Their parents followed them [to New York], choosing to be homeless even as their children prospered. The Glass Castle is truly astonishing--a memoir permeated by the intense love of a peculiar but loyal family.”
